On Jan.1, 2010, we woke to see the breath of the Winter Dragons...aka the exhaust from heater vents. It got down to -35C on New Year's Eve & the New Day wasn't much better. However, we've had a wee bit of a warming trend & today's high was a wapping -17C! Which means that our bird feeders almost require air control. Red Polls, Chickadees, (Where do they all come from?!), Snow Birds, & of course, one of our resident squirrels. There are at least four Red Squirrels in the area, but this one seems to have a nest in one of the Spruce trees, as well as the neighbor's tool shed, as well as a few other places. We've been "grandparents" to at least 15 years worth of Squirrels, Robins, Chickadees, & Tree Swallows.
There were two huge Sundogs on either side of the sun yesterday afternoon. They were so big that I refer to them as "sun archangels". They always herald a weather change. Today was overcast; yesterday was clear. Welcome to winter in Alberta!
